After meeting someone in the industry for the first time, I’m a GOD at following up. I have to be. My clients depend on it.
This is my approach for those emails (usually typed out while drinking my morning coffee).
Step 1: Four to five sentences MAXIMUM
Everyone is busy.
Step 2: Put Who Introduced Me or Memorable Moment of Meeting in Subject Line
Most folks read emails like they read news articles – Subject Line only – so I need to stick out among the junk.
Step 3: Give them a number, or a name, or something SPECIFIC that grabs them
Specific means real, serious, and honest.
Step 4: Make The Ask
Usually I’m just asking for a follow-up call or meeting.
Step 5: Make Sure the EPK kicks ass and is linked at the bottom, in the sig
